I don’t know why this is so funny to me, but it is.
It’s the same sort of hilarious that you get when eight year-olds say “when I was a little kid”. Like, no, you don’t laugh at them because to them having been six two years ago was actually an enormous percentage of their lived experience, but it’s still really funny.
another car opinion is that they shouldn’t have touch screens
if you need to do something with your car (ex: adjust the AC) you should be able to do it based off of touch and minimal sight; without knobs and buttons for tactile orientation youre … staring at an ipad while driving? awesome trend we’ve started

This or use like a knob to fuck with the screen I made sure to buy a model year to not have a touch screen but yes aesthically the cockpit look is better than touch screen outside of gps
I was just complaining the other day about how stupid having a digital screen for your gauges was just because of the expense and repair costs. I had somehow forgotten that this is still actually the worst part about modern cars.
when i was at an aftermarket shop, i dreaded anything involving the ‘infotainment display’, because it usually required a trip to the dealership for a system flash & update, or the total replacement of the entire unit. and even if we could do the unit, it often still required dealer intervention to integrate it to the computer.
auto manufacturers will claim that touchscreens exist to centralize controls & streamline the drivers experience. the reality is its about eliminating 'outside’ repair by tying everything into highly expensive non serviceable electronics that will require proprietary scan tools & software only found at authorized dealers to complete installation. its not just a case of automakers creating a lucrative revenue stream through their oem parts departments - where analog controls worked well enough - but also of 'right to repair’
